The Wisconsin Highway Stimulus Rebate

Dear Scott Walker,

You have pledged to control runaway government spending in Wisconsin and focus on “Jobs, Jobs, and Jobs.”  Many of your backers from the Tea Party believe the federal stimulus was a mistake, that it hurt the economy, and that the money would have been better left in the pockets of taxpayers.   A November WPRI Poll [Q 22, pg 25] demonstrated that voters view Transportation as the item they least want to be protected from spending cuts.  Wisconsin has received $531 million in stimulus targeted for highways.  Therefore I would like to propose that you strike $531 million in highway expansion projects from the next state budget and send every Wisconsin taxpayer a check for an equal share of that savings.
