Snow, no snow emergency

Again, downtown, don’t plan on getting our streets plowed to the curb . . . making the streets narrower and parking options less.

What gonna be really confusing is when they finally decide to call a snow emergency, no one will know why . . . and then the city will issue all kinds of tickets . . . maybe that is the plan? revenue generator? Get used to not moving your cars so when we randomly decide to plow, you’ll get large tickets.

Snow Plowing Updates

As of 1 p.m, Madison officially has received 2.1 inches of snow. We anticipate getting another one half inch of accumulation by 4 p.m., when the storm is expected to end. While this is below the 3 inches we use for a general plowing, we plan to plow all City streets beginning at 3 p.m.

We have made this decision, because we expect to see temperatures drop significantly this evening. This cold weather could lead to the formation of ice ruts on our residential streets if we do not act today.

We will not be calling in private contractors for this storm, but we will be sending most City vehicles with plows out on residential streets starting at 3 p.m. We will continue to plow overnight and we hope to have all residential streets plowed by 6 a.m. Plows working on residential streets will apply sand to curves, hills, and intersections.

We will not be declaring a Snow Emergency this evening so alternate side parking rules are not in effect in the Snow Emergency Zone. However, those rules do apply throughout most of the City of Madison and residents are reminded to park on the EVEN house numbered side of the street tonight. If you can remove your vehicles from the street this evening, it would be greatly appreciated.

We will continue to keep 36 units out on our salt routes plowing and applying salt and salt brine to main arterials, bus routes and routes to schools and hospitals. We will be keeping those crews on the main streets until the snow stops and the salt routes are open. Once that is accomplished we will divert many of these 36 units to residential streets.

We will begin work on sidewalks and bike paths at 6 a.m.
