From the Madison police department:
A West Side resident called for police late last month after two men came to her apartment door offering to cut her phone bill. The men, who were clad in orange t-shirts and carried some official looking paper work, claimed they were with AT&T. They told the 78-year old woman her rate could be sliced to $25 dollars per month, but they would need to check her existing lines. The woman thought the men looked legitimate, but felt this was a scam. She turned them away. The responding officer contacted AT&T. He was told the company did have sales people in the field, but that they wore navy blue shirts, and would not ask to enter a residence to check phone lines.
The takeaway here is to not let strangers into your home. Good to see the woman not fall for this scam.
