Rain, Rain, Rain, Tuesday Morning Round Up

I’m not complaining, its good for the plants.

ADD THE CAP TIMES
To the side that disagrees with Sheriff Mahoney and Blaska. By the way, I had no idea so many conservatives read my blog, very interesting.

STEVE KING APOLOGIZES
Hmmm, I guess he’s feelin’ the heat of the aforementioned folks.

SCHOOL BOARD WEEK AHEAD
A day late, but still worth checking out.

MORE CITY CRAZINESS
Get er done. For economic development, regardless of how stupid the proposal is. This is just sad. I wish the city would spend money for economic development in a way that would have a bigger impact, instead of these sweetheart deals. Here’s another report on the same story. I have 9 pages of notes from the meeting, but it will have to wait til tomorrow, I have a training for work that starts earlier than usual today. The notable thing here is that Bruer and Clear are on opposite sides of things.

RECALL GAME
It’s no Edgewater Bingo, but worth checkin’ out.

TEA PARTY CONFUSION
Hmmm, how can they just be angry citizens and be effective? Become a party? Or not? Interesting dilemma.

HOW TO SAVE A BILLION DOLLARS
Put Madison on a diet! Typical politician speak. But get rid of the Secretary of State and Treasurer’s Office? I guess that’s a good proposal, I mean, who’s going to object since most people don’t know what they do, right?

WATCH OUT FOR “THAT CROWD”
The Sconz reads the best practices policies for bars and live music. He asks a good question about what the city seems to be afraid of.

That’s it for today, cuz I have to go look at the agendas for the 10 meetings that were added to the weekly schedule yesterday.

  1. RE: ‘Rain, rain, rain …I’m not complaining.’ No, none of us should be complaining. We should all celebrate every time it rains. Every time it rains, that means less burning of coal. Because pumping water out of the ground and moving water around is the biggest single City use of electricity. The more it rains, the less drinking water we use to water lawns, gardens. So the more it rains, the less electricity we use to pump water. Also, every time it rains, it’s good news for our underground aquifer. See P 57 of our Public Health Department Environmental Health Report Card. Water Use and Conservation | Grade: Needs Improvement – ‘Significant drawdown of ground water levels’-‘Improved water conservation is necessary’. Every time it rains is cause for celebration-It means we’re pumping less water out of the ground. That means less burning of coal-and more recharge of our underground water supply.
