PFAS Testing and News

Madison Water Utility water quality manager Joe Grande has put together a summary and analysis of all PFAS drinking water testing in Madison conducted in 2019. This was the first year MWU used advanced methods to test all 23 municipal wells looking for low to ultra-trace levels of PFAS compounds. We will test all wells again starting in spring of 2020.

You can find the report on our website: 2019 Monitoring & Analysis Report

To receive all lab reports generated during 2019 PFAS testing (about 300 pages), email water@madisonwater.org.

DOWNTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD STUFF

126 Langdon Steering Committee

You are invited to a steering committee meeting Monday 2 December from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Kennedy Manor, 1 Langdon St.  We will be discussing Core Spaces’ proposed development for the now vacant site at 126 Langdon St, formerly occupied by a vacant 7-story building.

We will review what has been proposed so far.  It would be productive if steering committee members and interested people came prepared to discuss what features they like about the proposal and what they would like to change.
At this first meeting of the steering committee, the developers will not be present.  This will be an opportunity for neighbors and others to speak freely without concern for biasing or offending the development team.  Your input in the steering committee process will help improve the quality and character of the proposal.
Two more meetings are scheduled with the developers on 16 December and 6 January.
For those who don’t know me, I’m a resident of District 2 and own a business on Mansion Hill.  I’ve been involved in many steering committees in District 2 and have previously chaired a steering committee for a proposal at 500 E Washington Ave.
Please feel free to get in touch with me if  you have any questions about the proposal or the process.
Thank you for working to make our neighborhoods great!  I look forward to seeing you on the 2nd.
Best,
Bob Klebba

Marquette Neighborhood Assocation Board Opening

Here’s a reminder about the fiasco where their President Lynn Lee came in last in the elections, someone resigned and he took that seat.  Here’s the resolution from their minutes of November 18th

Lynn reported that there is a motion on the table to address concerns by a group of members about the election process at the annual meeting. Because the issue concerns his seat on the board, he asked Marlisa to lead this part of the meeting.

Marlisa introduced the topic by stating that the motion on the table is intended to be a reasonable attempt to our imperfect bylaws to deal with an unusual election situation. Renee read the motion aloud.

Motion to treat Collen Hayes’ withdrawal as a candidate for the MNA Board of Directors as a resignation and to take appropriate action according to Section 6.02(g) of the bylaws to fill the seat. And to direct the MNA Vice President
to implement the process.

Marlisa accepted the speaker request forms that attendees wanting to speak for or against the motion filled out in advance.

Pilar Gomez-Ibanez, who sent the board the petition on behalf of the neighbors, spoke first and said she was pleased to see motion. The resolution appears to put the election back beneath the rules outlined in the bylaws. She read a formal statement from the group. Of the 14 people who submitted a public comment on the motion (via a speaker form), 11 were in support of the motion, including nine signers of the petition. Two were opposed; one requested to speak in favor of Lynn Lee.

Bill Scanlon spoke in opposition of the motion citing the fact that there is no vacancy currently.

Marlisa reiterated that the bylaws do not address the issue perfectly but this is the best process we can follow.

Linda Lehnertz asked to see Colleen’s original email and text to determine if she really intended to withdraw. Marlisa stated that Colleen’s communication is not material to the motion on the table, which resolves to treat the issue as a resignation.

Pilar asked if the current Vice President will start the process to fill the vacancy. The answer is yes. The bylaws are clear that the VP is to assume any duties the president can’t. Renee stated that the board will do it’s best to follow what’s directed in the bylaws and will look to Bill Scanlon as one of original authors of the current bylaws for guidance.

Jack moved to accept the motion as written. Marlisa seconded. Vote taken. Motion carried.
