County Board Chair consulting with the sheriff and head of Health and Human Needs threatening to cut TRC’s funds. Yeah. That’s right.
It’s beyond ridiculous, but I have it from them in writing.
QUICK, CALL THE SHERIFF!
Facebook jokes . . . they are jokes! I haven’t heard from the Sheriff, so I’m guessing he sees it for what it is. A JOKE! I was going to joke that tonight at the TRC fundraiser at the Brink Lounge (5 – 7 tonight) that here will be a special plate for County Board Supervisors only to eat from! Yes, A JOKE!!!!! These are the jokes people!!!!! Maybe not the funniest jokes, but certainly not a real threat.
It all started with this facebook post and the complaint is the first two comments that follow.
This was the response that the Chair of the County Board, Sharon Corrigan sent out to the 29 member liberal caucus (hint: violations of open meetings laws on a regular basis? shhhhh, we’re not supposed to talk about that!):

I’m attaching a deeply disturbing Facebook post from last night. In the post Brenda Konkel is upset with HHN Committee Action. The first comment in response to her post advocates gun violence against the chair of the committee. Brenda responded with tacit agreement proposing that poisoning be a first step. This type of behavior is unacceptable when advocated by the Rush Limbaughs of the world & it is equally deplorable when promoted by the left. Advocating violence against elected officials undermines our democracy. I have forwarded the post to the sheriff and am awaiting his advice.

Sigh . . . what is a bigger threat to democracy, their not-so-secret secret caucus meetings where the real decisions on the county board get made and their budget process that squashes public input, or a facebook joke?
AND CUT TRC’S FUNDING!
I understand that Jeremy Levin is now talking about cutting the TRC budget at the Personnel and Finance Committee by $50,000, which is the last chance for the public to speak before they vote on the budget. The slimy part about this is that he doesn’t need to disclose the amendment before the public speaks, he can just do it after the public speaks and we will be precluded from responding to whatever his reasoning might be. In an email to the Liberal Caucus he has this to say.

Subject: Please share with Caucus
To: Carousel Andrea Bayrd <cbayrd@gmail.com>I thought Caucus might be interested to see a FB post attacking me and our HHN process. I only copied part of it (seems to still be going) and believe me I’m not going to respond. I am thankful that Brenda is not in our Caucus, and I find her level of vitriol ridiculous and I personally wanted this shared with Caucus, because I think her defenders should see that this isn’t a level of dialogue or a person worthy of of blind and unqualified support. I’m sure the DD Coalition doesn’t think very highly of me either, but I can talk to Melissa and she wouldn’t stoop so low (or be so stupid) to put something like this in the public space. Makes me wonder why I bow to folks in Caucus’ wishes to not take $$ from the TRC for the homeless youth shelter, when they just bow to her.
Jeremy
I’m real curious, who are these magical county board supervisors that I have so much power over that they just blindly support me, unqualified! I’d love to have that kind of support, but I can assure it, that is far, far, far from the truth. I’m been unofficially banned from going to he Progressive Dane county board caucus meetings for years because of my blog. Funny thing about us progressives, the real progressives, we have values and ideals that we agree on and then we work towards achieving a better world as we envision it, and we end up on the same page. That’s the magic! Some say we have an “agenda”. I suppose we do, otherwise, what would be the point of running for office and supporting like minded elected officials? I’m sure this is annoying to liberals who just want to climb to the next elected office, but its the truth of the matter.
CONCLUSION
This ought to be interesting. I guess we’ll (TRC) have to rally the troops for the Personnel and Finance Committee meeting. And try not to giggle if the sheriff calls me! One thing is certain, no amount of public pressure and threats and intimidation will stop me from blogging the truth about the county board. I don’t give in to bullying. And I’m just sick to death of the mess the county board is – that is the real threat to democracy and everyone should be paying attention.
By the way, this is the offending blog post as well.
