Public Protection and Judiciary

Did you know that if the Sheriff’s Office raises money, they can spend it however they want without oversight from the county board or the public? (about 12 minutes in) And, did you know that some communities aren’t paying their share of costs for the radio communications system (DaneCom) – they wouldn’t say on camera which one’s. (that’s about a half hour in) That will be privately emailed to the committee members.

The other surprising thing here was that I thought committees didn’t meet on election day. I guess that’s only for the general election . . . I guess civic participation doesn’t count on primary day?

Dane County Ordinance (DCO) 7.22
12) In order to encourage civic participation, meetings of County Board committees shall not be scheduled on holidays or on the day of any general election. The County Board chair shall consider holidays when developing the annual schedule of County Board meetings and shall annually issue a memorandum delineating days and times on which meetings should not be scheduled.

Ironically, the city didn’t have any meetings yesterday . . . for the Dane County Board primaries . . . sigh. Not surprised the county doesn’t get it . . . after all, no one really runs in these races and they aren’t really used to primaries with their incumbent protection plan . . . but that seems to be unraveling.

I don’t know why my video won’t let me embed it today . . . it did last time.

Here’s a link to the video.

Also, their discussion on incorporating Equity Questions into County Agendas was a little embarrassing. (starts in the first 5 minutes) They apparently don’t really know what they are passing and it might be too much work, particularly the work the Human Services Board is doing. Does anyone think that given our racial disparities trying to fix them isn’t going to be a lot of work?
