Parisi To Resign on Thursday!

From the Assembly! (Not County Executive!) There are already several people running for his seat and more jumping in.

Rep. Joe Parisi Announces April 14 as His Final Day in the Legislature Parisi Will Resign Legislative Seat to Dedicate Full Attention to County Executive Post and Provide Timely Election to Fill Vacant Seat

State Representative Joe Parisi announced that he will resign from his office of State Representative from the 48th Assembly District effective at the end of the day of April 14, 2011. Parisi wants to ensure that his district will have the opportunity to choose a new representative as soon as possible and that he can dedicate his full attention to his new position as the Dane County Executive. Parisi will be sworn in as Dane County Executive on April 19, 2011.

Parisi made the following comments regarding his service in the State Legislature and his election to be the next Dane County Executive:
“I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve the people of the 48th Assembly District in the State Legislature. Since my election to the Assembly, I have done my best to reflect the shared values of my district by prioritizing initiatives that protect our environment, provide working families with a fair chance at economic success, and promote open and accountable government. I am excited to continue serving the people of my district in my new position as Dane County Executive.

In order to ensure that my constituents have the fullest opportunity to choose their next representative, I will resign from my legislative office in order to initiate the process for scheduling a special election. I also believe that I will best serve the people of Dane County by focusing my full attention to my new duties as County Executive.”

Parisi was elected to the State Assembly in 2004. Before serving in the Assembly, Parisi served as Dane County Clerk from 1996-2004. Parisi was elected Dane County Executive on April 5 after receiving more than seventy percent of the popular vote.

The 48th Assembly District legislative office will continue to provide constituent services for anyone living in the district that has questions, comments or concerns regarding state affairs while the office is vacant. Constituents can continue to contact the office at (608) 266-5342.
