MTI Board of Directors and Faculty Representative Council voted unanimously in support of Occupy Madison at its April, 2012 meetings. Both bodies endorsed the same language that the Madison Common Council voted on a few days earlier, specifically:
Madison Teachers Inc. thanks the Occupy Madison movement and the current Occupy Madison residents for their efforts to address important community needs during this recession and recognizes their potential to be an important resource for this city.
Madison Teachers Inc. endorses the City of Madison reaffirming its commitment that Housing is a Human Right and that it will increase its efforts to implement that resolution.
Madison Teachers Inc. thanks the residents of Occupy Madison for showing us a successful model self-organizing and recognizes them as a part of ongoing community efforts to address poverty and homelessness.
