Let’s get them on the record!

Governor Walker came out last week with a union busting bill – Lots more information here. A couple of things have been overlooked in the reporting of this story. One thing here:

We know that Walker is trying to bait us by mobilizing the National Guard, hiring an Ohio security firm to staff any facility and instructing the capitol police to meet with legislators and “advise” them not to meet with constituents in their districts.

Also the Governor has sent out instructions NOT to grant leave or vacation this week, to minimize the crowds.

While I think it is very important to contact your legislators, Representative Gordon Hintz offered up a great sample letter to send:

Dear Sen./Rep.____________________:

I do not think that Gov. Walker and the Club for Growth’s proposal that eliminates 50 years of law in WI should be passed in 5 days, with little debate. Wisconsin is a great place to live because of its quality of life and strong public services and schools.

P.S. Why did the Club for Growth run ads before the plan was released?

With Scott Walker and the republican party wanting to pass this ASAP and with as little debate and public input as possible, I would recommend taking this to the grassroots! Tomorrow is a primary and a new election is coming up where we will be electing “nonpartisan” local officials, call/email your local officials and candidates and get their view. Let them register publicly support for/against this bill and then run on that in April. Let them run for local office having registered their support for or against their friends/neighbors. See if they are brave enough to actually voice an opinion fro this very important bill. That is truly grassroots that Scott Walker would not have prepared for. When/If you get a response, then let us know and we will help broadcast it so we know who supports the people in local elections and we can help support them also!
