Please pass this information along:In response to people no longer having a safe, legal place to sleep outside in Madison, The Salvation Army’s Women Shelter increased the number of days a woman can access shelter from 60 to 90 days per year as a trial run.
Effective immediately, available days will be permanently changed to 90.
- Year starts the first day entered shelter and will have 90 days to use as needed until her new year starts. Days do not need to be consecutive.
- For those who have stayed here 60 days of their year are welcome to come back and have 30 more days.
Residents do not need to be meeting with a case manager to receive 90 days in shelter but are encouraged to do so.- When temperatures drop to 20 degrees or colder, or during severe winter weather conditions, all women are permitted to use shelter despite capacity or shelter night limitations.
- Even on a “cold weather night” behavioral issues may result in being asked to leave shelter that night or a temporary suspension. However, staff will attempt to accommodate all women in need of shelter.
