ballot box solutions…..

Having spent lots and lots of time at the Capitol, many of the great speakers there keep mentioning recall. Not only of Scott Walker, but also of the republican Senators like Alberta Darling and Luther Olsen among others. While I agree with that, I think people are overlooking somewhere they can make a major impact. The spring elections!

I did write about this before, but I think it needs to be covered again. It is also gaining some traction elsewhere. In todays WSJ,

Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and more than 160 local officials from La Crosse to Milwaukee on Tuesday sent a letter to the governor and Legislature arguing that severe restrictions on collective bargaining undercut local control and the ability to deliver cost-effective, quality services.

While I always say, “just because one is elected does not make one a leader”.  Taking stands like this makes you a leader.

I recommend you email, call or ask your local officials AND candidates(especially those on the ballot this spring) where they stand on this “budget repair bill”. You could also send them this link, and ask them to sign on:

Some final thoughts on the issue. Do not take no answer for an answer. If they say they do not have an opinion because they have no control, you and I both know that is being disingenuous.

Also make no mistake, the state politicians are always paying attention to local politics. If they see city, township, village politicians in their districts lose their position for supporting the “budget repair”  bill, THEY WILL NOTICE!

In a side note, I did this and will be sharing all of my responses shortly. They range from thought out, to contrived to HUH? to predictable non responses. Also if you do this and get a response(good, bad, indifferent) let me know and I will share it!!

  1. Don’t forget that the April election will also determine whether the Supreme Court continues to rubber stamp the kind of legislative nonsense we are seeing now. David Prosser, the incumbent SC justice, has specifically identified this year’s election as being about preserving the conservative majority. We need to turn out for Prosser’s opponent, JoAnne Kloppenburg.
