Advisory Referendum on $10.10 Minimum Wage

Thursday at the County Board.

Ok, this is lazy blogging, but Koz already put it all together for me . . . no need to rewrite . . .

Fellow PDers,

The Dane County Board will consider an item this week that will likely put the following question on the fall election ballot (as a non-binding matter):

“Should the State of Wisconsin increase the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour?”

As we’ve been discussing for the past several months, research shows that the housing wage required to afford a 2 bedroom apartment in Wisconsin is $14.76/hour. (http://nlihc.org/sites/default/files/oor/2014OOR.pdf, page 228)

A $15 minimum wage is what we truly need in Dane County; not $10.10. Please contact your County Supervisor now to let them know that, while you appreciate the referendum, you want the minimum wage to read $15 per hour. Include your home address so they know you are a constituent (live inside the county). Find contact information here: https://www.countyofdane.com/board/supervisors.aspx

Please consider joining other supporters of a $15 an hour minimum wage by wearing red to a rally at the Capitol at Martin Luther King Jr Blvd at 6:00 pm.

At 6:15 pm advocates will march to the County Board hearing at the City-County Building just down the street on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

Plan to stay for the County Board Meeting on Thursday, June 26 at 7:00pm, if able, to speak in favor of $15 and against minimum wage half-measures.

The text of the item the Board will consider is here:

Please contact your Supervisor now to let them know you support a $15 per hour minimum wage:
