10am Thursday, Hearing on Landlord Bill

Yeah, it doesn’t even have a bill number yet! Meet at the capitol at 9am for a briefing – not sure where yet, or even what would be legal. But we’ll figure it out. More details here and here.

Good Morning,

We will be adding an additional bill to the committee hearing on Thursday. The landlord tenant bill that is currently being circulated will be taken up.

The committee will be at 10am as already discussed and I will be sending out the notice by tomorrow morning at the latest. If you have any questions please feel free to call me.

Thank you,

I’m still finding ordinances it will remove in Madison, add these to the list.

15. Leases for 3 units or more no longer required to tell tenants there is no smoking in common areas in the lease. MGO23.05(3)(p)

16. Our chronic nuisance ordinance requires communication by the landlord to the city of information that is not required by state or federal law and is not required of all property owners. This ordinance will need to be reviewed for process and possible removal of fines to landlords. MGO 25.09(3)(b)3.f.

17. Removal of requirement for landlord to educate tenants about fire safety (MGO 34.907(1)(d) and the form notifying the tenant that they are in violation of the ordinance if they tamper with a smoke alarm (MGO 32.06(4))
