Who’s Running in Spring Elections?

41 seats are available for County Board, Madison School Board and City Council.  People can start circulating nomination papers in 9 days!  Are you ready?I’m putting together a spring election guide that will be available in the menu bar at the top of this page.  I will update it regularly.  When there are major updates I will do a blog post to alert people to the changes.  Here’s the information people need to know to get started.

OFFICES UP FOR ELECTION IN SPRING 2020

Dane County Board

  • All 37 county board seats are open for candidates to run for election. Check here to see district maps and current incumbents.

Madison School Board

The following seats are open for candidates to run in 2020.

  • Seat 2 – Seat was vacated early by Mary Burke, Savion Castro was appointed by the school board to serve until the next election.
  • Seat 6– Currently held by Kate Toews
  • Seat 7 – Currently held by Nicki Vander Meulen

Madison City Council

  • District 8 has a vacancy due to Avra Reddy resigning.  Sally Rohrer was appointed to fill the seat until the next election.

2020 SPRING ELECTION TIMELINE

Dec. 1 – Candidates can start circulating nomination papers. Links to filed paperwork

Dec 27 – Deadline for incumbents to indicate they are not running

Special City Clerk Hours for City Council and School Board Candidates

  • January 2, 2020 Clerk’s Office open until 7 p.m.
  • January 4, 2020 Clerk’s Office personnel will be at 2713 E. Washington Ave. from 9 to noon for candidates wishing to file papers/forms on the weekend.
  • January 5, 2020 Clerk’s Office personnel will be at 2713 E. Washington Ave. from 1 to 3 p.m. for candidates wishing to file papers/forms on the weekend.
  • January 6, 2020 Clerk’s Office open until 7 p.m.
  • January 7, 2020 All papers and forms due in City Clerk’s Office at 5 p.m.

Jan 7 – Deadline for candidate paperwork to be on the ballot

Feb. 18 – Spring Primary for races with more than 2 candidates

April 7 – Spring General Election for all offices up for election

This will be a local guide to the candidates running for office and how to find out more information about their campaigns and where they stand on the issues.  It will be updates as new information becomes available.  There are three pages with candidates for County Board, School Board and City Council.

I will be updating this site with links to websites, social media accounts, candidate answers to endorsement questions, campaign finance reports and newspaper articles about their candidacy.
