Yup – 9 more demolitions. Most aren’t controversial and they seem pretty frequent, I post these about once a month.

These are the ones since January 23rd.

925 W Johnson

Please be advised that Gary Brown will be filing a demolition permit application on March 7, 2012 for Plan Commission review that calls for a two flat apartment building located at 925 W Johnson St Madison, WI 53715 to be demolished. Applicant’s Comments:
This 2.5 story wood frame, two-flat residence is currently owned by the UW Board of Regents. The university acquired the property in 1999 and has leased it for student housing up until 2009 when it became vacant. The house was built in 1909 as a single family residence and has a total living area of 2,070 square feet. The exterior of the building is wood shingles over a wood frame. Asphalt shingles cover the roof. The building will be removed to create surface parking for the university.

What’s the status of these demolitions?  704 University Avenue may be controversial – MEChA currently uses one of those buildings as space and UW-Madison has not acquired MEChA new off-campus space yet, so if they go through with demolition soon enough it could leave Chicano students without a safe space on campus.
