Weekend Round Up

Here’s the news I have . . . city, county, schools, state and things that didn’t quite make the news. And now, “wasted space”, dedicated to the stupidest waste of news space.

GENERAL

UW vs. Meriter
And the price we pay goes up.

WASTE OF SPACE

COULD FACEBOOK RUIN CLASS REUNIONS?
Seriously, State Journal?

CITY

METRO CRASH RECORD IMPROVING, DESPITE DEATH
Crashes are down to 72 per year.

WOULD YOU WANT TO RUN THE OVERTURE CENTER?
Doesn’t exactly seem like a good career move.

COUNTY

They apparently don’t do anything. (Absolutely not true! They just don’t get covered.)

SCHOOLS AND UW

BEYOND NO CHILD LEFT BEHINDD
With Tommy Thompson leading the charge, call me skeptical. We know how that W2 program worked out.

CHRIS RICKERT GONE CRAZY
Doesn’t like schools latest findings of kids with mental health issues in our schools and gives us this gem.

It’s also true that the district’s population is increasingly low-income and that this could correlate with a higher rate of mental illness.

What?

STATE

VOTER ID BILL, YOU MAY NEED TWO FORMS OF ID
If the address on your driver license or ID is from your previous address.

THIS IS JUST STUPID
Yay! I can save $800! I’ll gladly pay $4,000 more for that privilege. If this is how Republicans are planning to fix our economy, with math like this, we are soooooooo screwed.

RECALL SEASON
Recall elections start tomorrow. Here’s the dates that matter.

OPEN MEETINGS LAW IS A NO-BRAINER
Even the State Journal gets that.

NOT EXACTLY A TEA PARTY
A beer party instead . . . where they dump 50 gallons of beer in the street.

TEEN LABOR LAWS
Wisconsin Grocers got what they wanted, more hours for teens to work. Is that such a good idea? Rolling back child labor laws, go Wisconsin! *eyeroll*

SPECIAL SESSION FOR SPECIAL INTERESTS, NOT FOR UNEMPLOYED
They’re just lazy and this will help them get back to work.

REDISTRICTING PLANS SUCK
Republicans accused of gerrymandering.
From Emily Mills at Dane 101.
State Journal article

CONCEAL CARRY NOW LAW
Shaking my head. Guns in the Capitol? Sure, but no balloons.

EAGLES ON THE SQUARE
Or eagle.
