NOT PROFESSIONAL
Wow. Really makes you want to attend, eh? High opinion of her colleagues? Always helps to insult people you’re trying to get to do something.

Subject: Council presentation tomorrow. Be there!

The sister cities have worked hard on materials to present tomorrow evening to you. We’re scheduled for 5:30pm. Please be courteous to their efforts and be there. They’re making food for us. Another reason to show up on time. I’m going to be pissed if there’s a lack of attendance and checked-out ambivalence.
Thanks all,
Bridget

MOMENT OF SILENCE ON SATURDAY

MOMENT OF SILENCE

On Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 8:00 p.m., the staff of Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center, in collaboration with the City of Madison, the Latino Children and Families Council, the Latino Health Council, and Centro Hispano of Dane County, calls on the community to observe a moment of silence to honor the innocent victims of tragic acts of violence, three-year-old Luis Vasquez, three-year-old Kemaury McArthur, and four-year-old Kevin McArthur III. It will be a time for us to come together as a community, collectively mourning and reflecting on the loss of innocent children.

This moment of silence will help us gather our collective strength to refocus on broader ongoing efforts to create awareness and to educate our community about domestic violence and child abuse. Let us work together to stand against family violence and protect our children.

Date & Time: Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
Place: Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center
1917 Lake Point Drive, Madison, WI 53713

SHOREWOOD BIKE PATH IMPACTED

If you ride the bike path that goes around the Village of Shorewood Hills pool, this is the path that connects University Station (Marshall Ct/Ridge St. and University Ave) and Shorewood Boulevard, be aware that they are hosting the All City Dive Meet July 25 – 26. There will be more pedestrian activity in this area those days and they will be posting signs to slow down and/or walk your bikes near the pool. This won’t be as busy as a couple of years ago when they hosted the all-city swim meet, but please be aware of this event and be courteous to others.

TEEN ART CAMP

There is a great teen art camp starting the beginning of August. Check it out if you have a teen or pass it on to one if you can…Registration ends 7/25.

PASTE UP! is a two-week program specifically held from Monday, August 1 to Friday, August 12. Paste Up! will produce wheat-pasted graphic installations to be installed along Willy Street and on various sites in the Atwood business district (sites pending full approval from business owners).

These graphic installations are produced in the tradition of “street art”—Shepherd Fairey, Banksy, J.R.—and will be installed at the culmination of a two-week program—which combines design, production and education. In the spirit of an art summer camp, the program connects professional graphic artists with area teenagers. During the two weeks, the graphic artists will serve as “camp counselors”/ instructors/mentors for the teens, hosting seminars to teach about the spirit, attitude and style of “street art,” and also serving as production directors/mentors for the youth as they produce their own works.

After the project is complete a scavenger hunt will be held to allow the public to search out the installations throughout the city.
