Week 9 Homeless Day Center Update

Things going so much better than last year. Why? Staff attitude! Which created better attitudes all around. Oh, and check out the blog!

Greetings, Neighbors!

We are starting Week 9 and starting what appears to be quite the cold front! We continue to average around 120/125 people per day and are so thankful for the donations of meal items and winter wear!

Last week we were able to help MPD locate a young man dealing with self-injury concerns and help him get to safety. Meriter HEALTH nurse, Carlos, has regular hours here and was able to help folks obtain flu shots. Food Share (Lauren) aided more than 10 people obtain/maintain their benefit. Lutheran Social Services (Peter) began the Coping with Homlessness/Seeking Safety group on Friday. Mary (DPI-ret) has been regularly helping folks update resumes and seek employment. Winning $250 from Madison Soup continues to encourage Meg’s writers in Creative Writing group to push to their limits. Tami Miller is doing yoga on Mondays and has a small following of yogis!

Our VIP volunteer, Janie, continues to troubleshoot in the computer room. AND, please check out our blog!

We have two guest-run groups: Christ-Centered with Cedric and Vegan Free-Thought with Cheryl.

Today we are having our first drumming session with neighbor, Jen. Next Sunday, Shawn from Literacy Network will start Sunday Crafternoons and help folks crochet!

Z! and I participated a meeting with Sharyl (Rainbow), Rainbow’s Board President, Supervisors Wegleitner and Hendrick, Lynn Green (DCHS) and Captain Gloede (MPD). We are lucky to have such a caring agency for our neighbors.

Thanks for feedback, please keep it coming.
Sincerely,
Sarah
