Tuesday Morning Round Up

Ok – here’s a few more items of interest, as I try to keep caught up during the busy budget season . . .

EDGEWATER
I watched the Plan Commission on TiVo last night, as I was at Personnel & Finance. The presentation was brief and to some degree, lacking in what I expected to see. The big break to address the neighbors concerns fell a little flat with me, but I’m guessing I’m missing quite a few details. There are only two changes that I understand to have been made. One is changing the grading of the public space/reducing parking. The other is to lower the height of the building from 11 to 8 stories. There’s alot of detail in that and I don’t feel qualified to figure out if what they did was good or not without more info beyond a 20 – 25 minute presentation and a pretty picture. At first glance, it seems to have made the public space even more private feeling. And it seems to make the feel from Langdon/Wisconsin all about cars. You might have a view, but I’m having a hard time figuring out how the public accesses the alleged public space. I think I don’t get it – I need to see more. And I hope there is more to this. Don’t get me wrong, these are major changes, but what neighborhood concerns did they feel they addressed? I see changes, and significant ones, and I like the terrace a little bit better in some aspects but it raises new concerns about how public that space will feel. I guess I’ll try to make UDC, but they are meeting the same time as Personnel and Finance and neither one is televised.

MORE UNREPORTED HALLOWEEN INCIDENTS
Storefronts vandalized and major injury. In addition to the horse-induced injury, the “minor” stabbing and assault to an officer. I wonder how much more will leak out? And what the total picture will look like when it does.

ALRC DOUBLE STANDARD
Jesse Russell at Dane101 elaborates on the Marsh Shapiro privilege.

OH BARF! NOT LIBERAL ENOUGH?

Gag. This, from the dude who passed on the opportunity to serve the most vulnerable in the county by restoring $1.8M to human services last night says Tammy Baldwin isn’t liberal enough. How do you think she would have voted?

NEW ISTHMUS BLOGGER
I was asked if I was interested, didn’t bite. Looks like Emily did. Good choice. Even if she rips on me. Do I need to take back my vote for her band? 😛
