Tuesday (Everything but the Recall) Round Up

It will be short. Very short. Yup – good job on the recall signatures. Now, CAN THE GAB GET ME MY FREAKING VOTER FILE I REQUESTED ON DECEMBER 29TH! How many weeks does this have to take? Sigh, losing my patience. Primary is 4 weeks away and we don’t have the latest updates, we’re dealing with data from last February.

GENERAL

Bars are dangerous! FEAR! SCARE! “Crime” seems to get covered real well these days – drives me nuts when I go through my google reader. Logan’s bouncer almost tasered. Shoot out at the High Noon Saloon. I actually was there last night and saw the holes in the walls and have pictures, but I’m tired of all the news that emphasizes “crime” – and then forgets the rest of the news. I guess its easy to just regurgitate the police reports that come out.

Oscar Mayer is staying here, but 1600 layoffs elsewhere. Only 12 jobs lost here.

CITY

– Funny, isn’t this the same editorial board that was against the phosphorus ban ordinance the city passed?

Compromise on the Goodman Center liquor license. It’s nice to have a mayor who can help find a compromise while standing up for what he believes in.

COUNTY

None.

SCHOOLS

They have to make their own news.

Ed Hughes – The inevitability of value-added measures in teacher evaluations

COULD HAVE BEEN COVERED

– The council meeting? (My post is coming, technical difficulties)
– Health and Human Needs Committee – if youth of Dane County is important to people?
– Parking Council for People with disabilities – lots of awareness building items could be reported on
– TJ will have to let me know what school things could have been covered.

  1. MMSD has been publicly quiet, but Superintendent Evaluations were turned in by Board Members last week and there will  be vote on Nerad’s contract extension soon,  The State of the District presentation and district initiatives on achievement gaps are due soon also.  The dates for both of these have been in flux, but I’m hearing early February now and maybe together.  Madison Prep continues to garner headlines and distract both the district and the community from the honest, hard work of improvement.  School Board candidates are starting to get some traction.

How’s that for a quick roundup?  I need to get back to blogging, but have not found the time lately.
