Time is Running Out to Protect Wisconsin’s Comprehensive Planning Law

With the current legislative session set to close on March 15th there are only a few days left to ensure that Wisconsin’s comprehensive planning law continues to hold municipalities accountable to provide efficient and open development. The sponsors of AB-303 (The Smart Growth Opt-out bill, which allows communities to opt-out of their comprehensive plans and eliminates financial incentives for having a plan) suggest that communities already have enough incentive to plan and don’t need a mandate to create and follow a plan. But what is really driving the opposition to Wisconsin’s comprehensive planning law is the “Agenda 21” movement, which has become considerably stronger in the last year. Speakers in favor of AB-303 at both the Senate and Assembly hearings on the bill wasted no time telling their legislators about the evils of UN Agenda 21, and demanding that “Smart Growth” be put to an end.

Tom DeWeese, who has been the ringleader of the Agenda 21 opposition, has masterfully woven the tapestry of conservative hot-button issues into a monolith sure to send any conservative into a fit of anti-socialist rage. Don’t like the new bike path they put in on your street? DeWeese will tell you that it is part of Agenda 21. Did a part of your State get designated a national forest? That’s part of Agenda 21 too. Are your Schools not teaching your kinds the way you want? Yup, DeWeese will tell you that the cause is Agenda 21. And of course, says DeWeese, this is all motivated by bogus claims of human-induced climate change.

For only $195, you can get your “Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit”!

Tonight at 6pm, just in time to make a final push for AB-303, Tom DeWeese is speaking about Agenda 21 in Wisconsin at a free event at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center in OconomowocRecently DeWeese has shifted from talking about the threat of Agenda 21 to discussing how to shut down comprehensive planning meetings and on how to influence legislators to oppose smart growth.  You can be sure he will be urging attendees at this event to call their legislators and ask them to cripple Wisconsin’s comprehensive planning law during this critical time.

Now would be a great time to call your state senator and tell them you support Wisconsin’s comprehensive planning law , and oppose watering it down with AB-303.
