The city staff spends some time gathering information for this 90 page document, so what can be learned from it? Some interesting stuff if you like numbers, here’s a snapshot. Take a look for yourself.

– Madison Unemployment Rates still better than the rest (p 2)
– 8,376 unemployed people in “Madison”. I don’t know the definition of the Madison area here, but it varies. (p 3)
– Dane County W-2 Caseload 500 – 520 (p 5)
– 15,400 people in Dane County on Food Stamps – in 2007 it was under 10,000 (p 6)

– Still 7.5M – 8M in Hotel Tax revenues, despite the economy (p 8)
– Building permits – DOWN! (p 10)
– Madison doesn’t have the highest taxes in the area, Sun Prairie, Cambridge and Verona pay more. (p 13)
– Statewide they pay much more in LaCrosse, Green Bay, Milwuakee, Oshkosh, etc. (p 14)
– April had the highest sales taxes in Dane County in the last 4 years. (p 16)
