Soglin’s “Off Season” Campaign Contributions

Because of the Ethics Complaint saying that commercial real estate owners met with the mayor and they were campaign contributors, I started digging into Soglin’s campaign contributions on the off season and I found some curious things.

SOGLIN’S 2018 CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORTS

January Continuing (July 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017)
$500 Ken Golden

July Continuing (January 1, 2018 – June 30, 2018)
$2,832 Jeffrey Houden “Marketing” 4/17/18 (Developer!)
$3,000 Fred Mohs “Attorney” 4/17/18
$4,632 Chris Houden “SALES” 4/17/18 (Developer!)

This money was used to pay back $4,500 loan from Scott Herrick 5/13/17. Why did the mayor need a loan at that time?

And of course, I reported on the 2019 reports here and here.

CONCLUSION

I’m cynical. And this is worse than I thought. That’s a lot of donations from people who have very clear interests in the City of Madison and make money off of developing. I knew it was bad, but I guess when you see it in black and white and its sooooo obvious, its jolting.

Going back to Enis’ email about who was in the room on that day, lobbying the mayor
Anne Monks (Mayor’s office)
Nick Zavos (Mayor’s office)
Rob Phillips (Engineering)
Mark Hanson (Assessor)
Michael Mucha (Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District)
Terrence Wall – T Wall Enterprises
– $2,500 Terrence Wall “Real Estate” 6/21/16
– $2,000 – Terrence Wall (PO Box in Madison?) – CEO and founder (Developer) – Jan 2019 report
– $1,073 – Helen Wall (PO Box in Madison?) – Administrative Assistant – Jan 2019 report
Todd Wozniak – Veridian Homes
Curt Brink – Curt Vaughn Brink LLC (developer)
Matt Brink – Executive Director, Smart Growth Madison
Brian Mullins – Mullins Family

But now I’m going back to, where are the lobbying reports on these folks? (Damn, another blog post!)

I do not see
Terrence Wall
Todd Wozniak
Curt Brink
Matt Brink or
Brian Mullins
on the list of lobbyist that would have been registered at that time.

In fact, I don’t see anyone from Smart Growth Madison. Sigh . . . you know, this whole blog got started back in 2004 when I wanted a way to show people what lobbyists were up to – and how they weren’t complying with the laws and reporting it! I didn’t realize the reporting had slipped ssoooooo much again.
