Social Justice Center Mural Dedication

Despite the fire at Jolly Bob’s last night and the electricity outage this morning, and the rain . . . the party continues on! Stop by the Social Justice Center (1202 Williamson St) tonight for the mural dedication, the art gallery opening/art walk and the WYOU light and music festivities.

Mural Dedication Fri May 7 6 pm (gallery night)

“Toward Revolution – 1970’s Vision”

Join us for the dedication of a new mural at the Social Justice Center, 1202 Williamson Street.

· Festivities begin at 5:30 with mural dedication at 6:pm
· Featuring the music of:

o Peter and Lou Berryman
o Kronic Jones

· Be sure to check out the poster exhibit “Willy Street in the 70’s – Changing the World through Art” on exhibit at the Social Justice Center through May 31.

· Help celebrate a pivotal time in Madison’s history that is only beginning to be recognized for its significance.

Event Schedule:
5:00pm – “Willy Street in the 70’s – Changing the World through Art” exhibit in the Jackie Macaulay Gallery in the Social Justice Center. This project celebrates the history of Willy St in the 70’s, a place where Madison’s own counter-culture artists and social activists found cheap rent and minimal restriction on their artistic and political activity. Exhibit curated by Sharon Kilfoy. Gallery is open from 5p – 9p.

5:30pm – 8:00pm “Toward Revolution – 1970s” Vision” mural dedication at the Social Justice Center. Dedication speakers include U.S. Representative Tammy Baldwin, 6th District Alder Marsha Rummel and Mural Artist Sharon Kilfoy. Musical artists participating in the dedication festivities include Peter and Lou Berryman, Michael Bonesteel and David Bicknase “Harmony of the Spheres” and Kronic Jones. The music and dedication will take place on Few Street at Willy Street. Few St. will be closed to traffic. Refreshments will be available. Dedication ceremony at 6:00pm.

8:00pm – WYOU Video and Light Installation created by Eric Allin and WYOU Producers. Music to compliment and enhance the sensory experience provided by bell monks. bell monk members include heidi e. johnson, jeff herriott, eric sheffield, matt hund and anna v. Refreshments will be available. Installation and music from 8p – 9p.

And don’t forget, we’ll be celebrating our 10th Anniversary on Thursday at Olbrich Gardens . . . more to come on that!
