Round Up Resumes

The holidays made for weird news, so I didn’t want to resume yesterday with the rounds, so I’m starting today and will try to do it several times a week if not daily. I’m only going to do local politics, so until the student papers resume printing, it might be a little sparse.

GENERAL/OTHER
All Dane County Candidate filings. Many of the races you won’t hear much about, but there are more races than School Board and Dane County Board this spring.

Homeless Day-Shelter has about 100 people a day? But no heat! Nice. This service should have been in place downtown for years now. I hope it continues after this.

CITY
Council rebids the library. Unanimously on a voice vote with no discussion after a brief explanation by Verveer. Hard to make news out of a story that starts out “In a move that came as no surprise”

Southside TIF?
Yeah, because we just haven’t dumped enough money into the south side . . . that’s not a comment about the project, just the way the city decides where the money goes. By the way, the article is bizarre in claiming that:

Ald. Sue Ellingson, 13th District, is proposing $1.89 million in tax incremental financing — one of the city’s larger TIF loans in several years — for the Ghidorzi Cos. of Wausau . . .

Um, no, its not one of the largest, its one of the smallest!

Cloudy Northside water – pump fails, just run the water to clear it.

City can’t make its phones work? This is the second day in a row. Odd.

COUNTY
Conservatives on County Board at risk? Liberals hoping to reduce the block of 10.

SCHOOLS
School Board Races – about more than Madison Prep? 2 races this spring, two Urban League candidates. One will try to buy the election. Should be interesting. Both candidates raise some interesting ethical issues as well.

UW-Madison one of the most selective.
Too selective?
