Room Tax Commission

I attended this meeting on Tuesday because there was no information in legistar and they do control millions of dollars. It is one of only 5 meetings they will have this year and it lasted only 25 minutes.

Two things to note. Most meetings I go to, I am the only person there besides committee members and staff. This group had two mayoral aids, a department head and the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director and a city attorney. Most committees can’t get the mayor’s staff or city attorney to show up to their meetings. Also, note that right when the video starts they are announcing their conflicts of interest. 3 of the 4 of them have conflicts, when Mark Clear gets there I don’t think he announces his, but that would make 4 of the 5. That is also pretty unusual since typically most committees don’t have any conflicts to announce. But when there’s millions of dollars involved . . .

Here’s the video

Here’s the handouts

20180214194323″>AirBnb and other “short-term rental” tax collections

I’m interested in the “short-term rental” situation because my neighbor illegals rents out the house he doesn’t live in more times per year than he should. Unfortunately, its hard prove he doesn’t actually live in the house.
