Pitifully Few Vie for County Board/School Board Seats

Filing deadline is tomorrow and out of 37 potential county board races, there are currently . . . four. 3 known retirements from the board. 89% of the county board supervisors are likely to skate through another election, unopposed. No contested races for 3 of the 7 school board seats?

Read it and weep.

The four races currently are:
District 1 (downtown near west)
Mary Kolar is being opposed by not only Adam Brabender but Rob “Dz” Franklin. So she will have a primary if Franklin gets his paperwork in as expected. This may be the only primary. Hmmmmm, what did Mary do to get two challengers when most have none?

District 5
Leland Pan is “retiring” and there are two people running for his seat. Hayley Young (democrat) and Angelito Tenorio. This is the campus race. (Savion Castro is not running.)

District 18
Michele Ritt is being challenged by right-winger Adam Tobias (staff for Rep. Joe Sanfelippo).

District 28
The seat vacated a few months ago by Abigail Wuest was filled by Nikki Jones and she is being challenged by John Brixy. This seat is in the Cross Plains/Mt Horeb area.

Two people will be new and are getting a free ride as of now:
District 4
Richard Kilmer (works at Community Pharmacy) is running for the seat currently held by Kyle Richmond. This district is on the south side of Madison, Town of Madison and some Fitchburg.

District 36
Cynda Solberg will not be running for re-election and that seat may be filled by Daniele Williams.

Another snoozer unless something exciting happens today or tomorrow. Who knows, there could have been people out collecting signatures this weekend . . . but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Of the incumbents, only Matt Veldran, Bill Clausius, Dorothy Krause and Bob Salov have yet to get their signatures in.

The deadline for filing above forms is January 5, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.

It only takes 50 signatures and a little paperwork to get on the ballot . . .

SCHOOL BOARD
Super snooze . . . here’s how to run. The city hasn’t even updated their filings as of this morning, they still have teh mayoral and aldermanic races from 2015 on their website. School Board requires 100 signatures and the filing deadline is also Tuesday at 5, but in the City Clerk’s office.

Folks up for election this spring are
James Howard
TJ Mertz
Dean Loumis
