Opitz not Running for County Board

Figures, the day after the WSJ confirms who is running . . . its wrong. Not Matt’s fault, I just figured it wasn’t the final answer . . .

Colleagues,

After much consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election to a 7th term. I just officially announced my decision at the Middleton Common Council meeting.

I have had the privilege of representing the City of Middleton since 1998, when my daughter was a 1-year-old. By the time I leave office in April, she’ll be 13, and my son will be almost 10. I want to participate in more family and school activities before both of my children “leave the nest” in a few short years.

Also influencing my decision is the opportunity to serve as Middleton’s appointment to the RTA board of directors. While Middleton’s city attorney has opined that this role would not be incompatible with my county supervisor duties, I want to make sure I have enough time to devote to the challenging work that lies ahead. I know most of the appointees quite well and am confident that we’ll work well together to develop a specific transit plan that will be supported by a majority of voters in a referendum.

I am pleased to announce that Sharon Corrigan, a neighbor of mine, has declared her candidacy for the District 26 seat.

SNIP

I look forward to working with you during my remaining months on the board, and in the years ahead as a member of the RTA Board of Directors. Best wishes for a successful campaign season.

Mark Opitz
