  1. Sent to all Alders:
I will be at the Board of Education meeting this evening and unable to
attend the Board of Estimates to offer public comment on items before
that body, so I am writing.

I urge support for the Union contract extension.

On the Capital Budget Amendments I urge support for:

    1. — Investment in libraries is important and Hawthorne is well used.

    13. — Smart, sustainable investment for public transit.

    15.
    — The renewed uncertainty around the role of TIF and TIF processes
needs to be brought to a speedy resolution. If there will be new TIF
policies, it is best to know what they are before setting aside funds.

    I urge opposition to:

    2.
Automated surveillance moves Madison further away
from the community policing model that has been shown to be effective
not only in reducing crime, but in building relationships and community.

    14
& 16 — See above on TIF. If it isn’t a good idea to designate
money for a purpose and process currently being redefined, it certainly
isn’t a good idea to designate more money.

    Thank you.
