What: Protest Day Before Scheduled Trump Appearance at Holiday Inn

Where: Parking lot of Holiday Inn Express 3100 Wellington Pl, Janesville, WI 53546

When: 6:00pm, TODAY, Monday, March 26th, 2016

Janesville – On Monday, March 26th at 6:00pm, community members will rally at the Holiday Inn to call for the hotel to cancel Tuesday’s planned Trump rally.  Holiday Inn agreed to host the event despite Trump’s discriminatory views and the pattern of violence directed toward peaceful protestors and people of color in his audiences.  Given recent threats of violence toward local protest organizers, concerned community members are calling upon the Holiday Inn to keep this hate out of Wisconsin.

Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera Action, explained: “This is more than a free speech issue, this is a hate speech issue where Trumps messages are leading to racially based violence. By agreeing to host the event, the Holiday Inn is putting its workers and guests at risk.”

Protesters say Donald Trump is running on a platform of racism and dangerous intolerance which gives fuel to violence. In Southeastern Wisconsin, we are still reeling from the recent hate crime murder of neighbors for not speaking English. Protesters are calling upon the Holiday Inn to follow its own guidelines which say they “don’t tolerate racial discrimination” and cancel his event.

A petition hosted by Mijente calling on the hotel chain to reverse its decision to host has received over 2,000 signatures. The statewide multi-racial group of organizations and individuals organizing Monday’s rally plan to protest on Tuesday as well if the Holiday Inn does not cancel the event.

Kristen Brock-Petroshius, one of the organizers of the petition and protests, said: “Offering Trump a venue endangers Holiday Inn patrons, staff and protesters. As a member of the Janesville business community, the Holiday Inn should cancel this event and send a strong message to the public that Trump’s intolerance is not acceptable in our state.”

If the event is not cancelled, protests are planned for 11:00am Tuesday at the convention center.
