Subject: New City Attorney

Colleagues –

I am pleased to announce that after speaking to many exceptional candidates, I have offered Michael Haas the position of Madison’s next City Attorney, and he has accepted our offer.

Mike worked for many years as a private attorney, a municipal attorney for Stoughton, Edgerton and Milton, as a nonpartisan attorney for Government Accountability Board, and at the newly created Wisconsin State Elections Board where he managed dozens of people. Notably, he served at the GAB while it was under sustained attack. As you know, GAB dealt with numerous controversial issues that were managed in a way that sustained public faith in the GAB and in the integrity of Wisconsin elections system.

I know you will welcome Mike as I do and help him get up to speed on the many issues facing the city.

In order to have some overlap with Mike May, the start date of his provisional appointment will be May 18th. I expect his contract to be introduced to you for confirmation on May 19th.

Be well –
Mayor Satya
