New Edgewater Schedule? (UPDATED! NOW CHANGED!)

Don’t blink you’ll miss it. The new/amended TIF and land use applications may fly by in 9 days.

Yesterday, the Council got this email:

From: Veldran, Lisa
Sent: Tuesday, March 02, 2010 12:04 PM
To: ALL ALDERS
Subject: POLL: Attendance @ Special Common Council Meeting: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 @ 6:30 p.m.

In order to accommodate what is likely to be a lengthy Common Council meeting on the proposed Edgewater Hotel redevelopment project, Council Leadership and the Mayor’s office would like to tentatively schedule a special Common Council meeting for Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. (Room location TBD). This will ensure that the Council has the quality time necessary to focus on those items before us pertaining to the Edgewater project.

In addition be advised that a special Board of Estimates meeting is also being scheduled for Monday, March 15, 2010 to respond to Edgewater related items.

Recognizing your busy schedules and the time demands placed upon you, please let Lisa Veldran, Council staff, know as soon as possible if you are able to attend this special meeting. It would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions or suggestions don’t hesitate to contact myself or Ald. Mark Clear, Council President Pro Tem.

Ald. Tim Bruer
Common Council President

So, I started poking around and here is what I found out:
– First of all, yes, the intend to vote on the Edgewater at this meeting if they have it.
– Second, there is no new or revised application for TIF or the land use, yet. The land use will get submitted by the 10th, the TIF there is no e.t.a.

So, how’s this going to work? I confirmed and this is the new proposed/attempted schedule for the project.
– 3/15 Special Board of Estimates meeting on the TIF BEING RESCHEDULED
– 3/17 Urban Design Commission meeting on the PUD
– 3/22 Plan Commission meeting on PUD, CUP for waterfront Development and the Amendment of the 1965 Ord.
– 3/23 Special Common Council meeting on the PUD, 1965 Ord, Landmarks Appeal and TIF

UPDATE: Additionally, the School Board will be discussing the Edgewater TIF on Monday.

I’m not sure I believe it, its not entirely impossible, but its horrible process. The Council will get the report from the Plan Commission on their desks the night of the vote. There are a couple unique things going on with the TIF that I haven’t heard discussed in public and will get little time for discussion. Members of the public will see the TIF agreement maybe on Friday afternoon the 12th for the Monday evening meeting, if the application gets in and the TIF coordinator has time to review it. I’m guessing, despite all the changes, its still $16M.
