Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Round Up

Bad blogging week for me, internet and webhosting issues – so here’s the round up that has a little older news included.

GENERAL/OTHER
Dane County Foreclosure Workshops while the number of foreclosures decline. Perhaps there is a correlation between the two?

CITY
Community Center lost its focus. Need to make money on weddings more important the services to kids? Mayor Soglin threatens to veto their liquor license.

Wanna buy some library furniture?
Nonprofits get first crack at it today.

First the Geese, Now the Deer. When animals do things we don’t like, we kill them. Parks Commission recommends we shoot the deer. Again, can’t we find other options?

WSJ Personalizes the debate. – The Edgewater was about Bob Dunn vs Fred Mohs. Now the Wisconsin State Journal is making the 100 block about Jason Tish vs Frautschi/Rowland. Can we just try discussing the issues for once, instead of demonizing people who are involved in local government decision making? I’m guessing not. Channel 3 promotes Frautschi’s spin instead of getting both sides of the story. Sounds like they proposed to get rid of a lot of buildings so when they “compromised” it looked like improvments – even tho they are still asking to demolish a landmark. Also looks like they are following the lead of the Edgewater and trying to win this in the media instead of in city hall through that process.

Frida’s Closes – instead of hiring 6 armed guards. Seriously, the city was asking them to hire 6 armed private guards. Do we really wants bar owners doing that?

Healthcare for the poor in high demand. Big expansion planned for clinic on southside. CDA on behalf of the city consider selling land for it. One question, “behavioral” health services? Mental health issues aren’t medical – but behavioral? Is that what they are saying?

TIF for another Southside clinic.

Police Shuffle – good to have at least one woman back as a district captain and back doing police work instead of paper work.

Art is hard.

Another great blog post by my alder. Originally it was just a link with no explanation . . . not sure the explanation makes the post any better.

More government jobs to be lost in Madison.

Taxpayer oversight of Overture to be further reduced?

COUNTY
Verona developers criminals? But . . . businesses do no wrong!

County has half million dollars for your Parks ideas.

SCHOOLS
Beth Moss and Marj Passman upset with WSJ characterization of meeting on Nerad’s diversity plan. Here is said article.
