BIKE MADISON UPDATES
Walking and Biking Survey
A quick reminder that the City of Madison is updating its Pedestrian Plan and finalizing its All Ages and Abilities (AAA) Bike Network and we want to hear from you! Please complete a short survey to tell us about how and where you walk, bike, and roll in Madison and provide input on draft plan goals. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and your responses are anonymous. Your input will inform the planning process and recommendations.
The survey will be available until July 1.
Lake Loop Chip Sealing
It is construction season, and with that comes chip sealing of many local streets. Chip sealing is a cost-effective preventative maintenance method used to extend the useful life of Madison’s streets. However, it can create challenging conditions for people bicycling until the chips are fully embedded or loose chips are swept away.
Waunona Way, part of the Lake Loop south of Lake Monona, was recently chip sealed – please use caution when riding in the area.
It is Getting Hot!
Today is the first day of summer, and we will feel it starting tomorrow! With temperatures expected in the mid-90s over the weekend, make sure you stay hydrated if you are out walking, running, biking, or rolling. This weekend will be a great opportunity to walk or bike to one of our many local ice cream shops. Stay cool out there!
PROJECT UPDATES
Door Creek Watershed Study
Location: 6606 Hopewell Drive
Estimated Schedule: April 6, 2022 – December 31, 2024
June 20, 2025 Update
City Engineering is amending the Door Creek Watershed Study contract so the consultant can complete additional analysis of the undeveloped areas north of I-94 within the watershed to better plan for future development with the City’s Planning Division. This will extend the contract through the summer of 2026.

Following the additional modeling and analysis, the City will host a Public Information Meeting to present what conceptual stormwater solutions are needed to meet the City’s flood mitigation targets throughout the watershed. The meeting is anticipated to occur in spring 2026. You can subscribe to updates on the this webpage to be notified when the meeting is scheduled.

MG&E has completed the removal and replacement of two poles, and overhead utilities have been relocated. The Contractor will continue with the grading, concrete work (sidewalk and curb & gutter), placement of gravel base, paving and terrace restoration.
High Point Road, South

The preliminary layout of the future S. High Point connection entails a two way left turn lane and a 1-lane roundabout at Raymond Rd. and S. High Point Rd.
Shawnee Pass

Due to material availability affecting timelines on this project, the contractor has changed the tentative start date for the Shawnee Pass reconstruction to September 8, 2025. Project completion is expected by early October.
Nakoma Road Sidewalk 2025

Estimated Schedule: June 16, 2025 – August 29, 2025

Due to material availability affecting timelines on this project, the tentative start date for work on the Nakoma Sidewalk has been pushed to Monday June 30, 2025. Completion is expected by early August. The tentative start date for the box culvert portion of the project has been changed to Wednesday July 23, 2025.

Transportation Commission Meeting
The Davidson St, Park Ct, Maher Ave and Gary St reconstruction is scheduled for construction in Fall 2026. The project will be presented to the Transportation Commission on June 11, 2025. Meeting information is available on the following link: https://www.cityofmadison.com/
E Wilson Street and E Doty Street Reconstruction
The City’s Contractor is nearing completion of the remaining sections of E Wilson St. Final asphalt paving of the cycle-track and roadway, including pavement markings is scheduled to occur over multiple days starting Wednesday, June 11th going until Saturday, June 14th.
E Wilson St is anticipated to be fully closed from S Pinckney St to S Franklin St for final surface roadway paving, the closure is anticipated to last two days (June 13th and June 14th).
