AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE DANE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES, REGARDING COMPENSATION OF THE COUNTY BOARD

The committee will be taking public comment and discussing only the departmental budgets listed below at this meeting. Sharon Corrigan is asking for $85,275 for a Department of Administration – Information Managements – “Expenditures be increased by $85,275 and position authority increased by 1.0 FTE to create a new Information Management Specialist II position effective 4/1/20 in the Department of Administration-Information Management to develop applications as needed, with a particular focus on criminal justice and cross- system applications.”

Supervisor Danner is asking for $500,000 for Dane County Housing Authority – “Increase expenditures and borrowing proceeds by $500,000 to fund efforts by the Dane County Housing Authority to develop new rental housing units in Dane County and add the following provision to 2019 RES-285: “The Dane County Housing Authority is an extension of Dane County. The DCHA is poised to engage in the development of new affordable housing units. The $500,000 in funding will become available to the DCHA for one or more development projects once the DCHA has secured tax credit or other financing sources to complete the project(s).””

WHAT’S NEXT

If they do it like past years they have one more meeting where they come back with one big “uber amendment” that magically results in a balanced budget.  There is no public discussion, it’s all done behind closed doors.  The public is no longer allowed to speak at that point.  Then it goes to the county board, and I don’t believe the public can speak at that meeting either.  All you can do it email, call or try to talk to them in person but the board meeting is essentially a rubber stamping of the “uber amendment”.
