Judge says “Yes” to Free Lisa, One More Hurdle!

#FreeLisa!
Update! Please call Sara Wasserberg, Lisa’s PO, at the Probation and Parole office and tell her to #FreeLisa. (608) 273-5800:

Yesterday was a victory for grassroots organizing and direct action! Thanks to all who signed the petition and came out to the action yesterday.

Lisa was given time-served by Administrative Law Judge Cynthia Stoppel. She could have been released yesterday, however her PO has 10 days to appeal the decision in which Lisa is supposed to sit in jail and wait, but the PO can forgo this and authorize her release. She has sat long in solitary confinement for 8 months too long! Release her! Call Sara Wasserberg at the Probation and Parole office and demand that they forgo the appeal process and #FreeLisa. Event Friday
On Friday December 18, 2015 at 12:00 noon Young Gifted and Black will hold a rally at Lisa’s parole officer, Sara Wasserberg (5706 Odana Rd. #2) office to demand the immediate release of Lisa Mitchell, a Black trans woman who has been in solitary confinement in the Dane County Jail for 8 months. We see Judge Cynthia Stoppel’s decision yesterday to give Lisa a time served revocation sentence as a great victory! However the Probation Officer and the DOC have10 days to appeal the decision, which means Lisa will continue to sit in solitary for 10 more days over the holidays.

T Banks, organizer with YGB said, “She has sat in solitary due to her gender identity for 8 months too long! The judge has ruled, the people have spoken, let her out for the holidays!”

We demand that Lisa be released from jail immediately and the appeal window forgone.
We demand that Lisa be let out of solitary confinement.
We demand that the conditions of her probation do not limit her gender expression as a woman.
As long as she’s incarcerated, we demand that Lisa get full access to trans health care.

#handsoffBlackwomyn is a national campaign calling for the end of state violence against Black women, queer, and trans folks in the U.S. This campaign seeks to raise awareness around the intersectional experiences of those who are subjected to and forced to survive systemic racism and systemic patriarchy. This campaign seeks to lift up the voices and experiences of womyn like Marissa Alexander, the New Jersey 4, Cece McDonald, Cierra Finkley and Lisa Mitchell.

If you can’t make it to the action please call her PO Sara Wasserman at: 608-273-5804 and tell her that you want to see Lisa Mitchell released ASAP so she can be out for the holidays.
