Yeah, I picked a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel. On Saturday, I got a little more motivated to follow up on my post on the commenting policies at madison.com and thedailypage.com forum. And a couple facebook threads (Jason who administers thedailypage forum, Brenda). So, I started a little on-line petition. And so far, about 60 70 80 people signed on, in less than 48 hours (I’ve been adding names as they sign on below).
What impresses me is that this is not a progressive, liberal or conservative issue. I have gotten messages from people from Dorothy Borchardt and neighbors who disagree with me to the usual suspects and allies. The petition merely says:
We, the undersigned, are fed up with the abusive anonymous and pseudonymous comments allowed on your website. The name calling, personal attacks and just plain mean nature of many comments made by people who do not use their real names discourages public participation, prevents people from running for public office and deters people from standing up and speaking out. Please change your commenting policies to require real names to be used to comment and delete the mean spirited and often useless comments that are so common.
And, as far as I can tell from the slightly messed up reports, 62 71 80 88 people have signed on (that number keeps increasing and I keep adding names below), including . . .
