How to Get Financial Support for Housing Issues

This is from the agency that gets all the city money for eviction prevention and security deposit funds. They get a few $100,000 but the requests at the Tenant Resource Center are over $1M of requests. THere is a lottery each month for 8 – 10 people to get eviction prevention assistance, and you can only get assistance if you haven’t gotten it recently and have and income and pay future rent.

As announced at the HSC membership meeting on Tuesday 2/3/15, financial assistance inquiries for CAC’s drawing (Security Deposit, 1st month’s rent, and Eviction Prevention) will now be through Coordinated Intake (Housing Crisis Hotline) – effective immediately. Instead of calling CAC 246-4730 ext. 230, please direct any referrals to the Housing Crisis Hotline 1-855-510-2323 (option 1). We are still in the process of scheduling a re-recording of the Housing Crisis Hotline to reflect this change. As you can imagine, it has been a task getting the phones lines at CAC correct for this change, and I hope this will happen over the next couple weeks and will notify you as soon as I know. Website will be updated as well.

The process for financial assistance will be the same. Each individual that calls will receive an assessment to what financial services they may be eligible for. CAC’s drawings will continue to be held on the 2nd Wed (Eviction Prevention) and 3rd Wed (Security Deposits) of each month. If picked, the applicants will still meet with a CAC Financial Service Specialist to fill out an application and gather required documentation.

For those participants who would like to request case management services through CAC, the process has changed. When a caller requests an assessment for services, they will be referred to the appropriate Caseworker based on where that person is living or staying in Dane County. Participants are welcome to contact a CAC Caseworker at the office numbers listed below. See the chart below for details. If there is uncertainty to whom they should be referred, feel free to contact Dave Hunt, Coordinator of Case Management (608-246-4730 ext. 214) for any questions.
