Early Voting, No Voter ID Required

I’m not an early voter, I prefer to wait til election day, you never know what you might learn between now and then, but if it what it takes to get you to vote, by all means, vote early!

Early Voting
From Ledell Zellers:

The Madison City Clerk’s Office will be open for absentee voting all hours permitted by state law: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

weekdays, October 20 through October 31.

City of Madison residents can vote absentee and register to vote in the Clerk’s Office in Room 103 of the City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. All voter registrations must be accompanied by proof of address—one of the following documents showing the voter’s current name and current address:

·         Utility bill issued in the last 90 days
·         Bank or credit union statement
·         Wisconsin driver license/ID
·         Government document
·         Government check
·         Paycheck
·         Residential Lease
Voters may visit https://MyVote.wi.gov to check their voter registration, see a sample ballot, check the status of an absentee request, or find their polling place.
Photo ID will not be required to vote in the November election.

No voter ID
From Anita Weier:

As of 10/09/2014 the United States Supreme Court has ruled that Wisconsin’s Voter ID law will NOT be implemented for the November 4th election. You will not have to show a photo ID.

Voter Registration Changes
The following changes to voter registration are effective immediately:
 – Under the new law, you may no longer register to vote the Saturday, Sunday, or Monday before an election.  However, you may still register to vote at your polling place on Election Day.
 – Voters may no longer use a corroborating witness as proof of residence when registering to vote.  Acceptable forms of proof of residence  –http://www.cityofmadison.com/election/voter/voterRegister.cfm.

Signing the Poll Book
Voters are now required to sign or make their mark on the poll book before receiving a ballot.  There is an exemption for voters who are unable to sign the poll book due to a disability.  This change is effective immediately.
Absentee voting in the Madison City Clerk’s Office ends the Friday before the election.  The City of Madison has traditionally been open for voting the Saturday before each election, but will no longer be able to offer this service in order to comply with the new state law.
Straight Party Ticket
Wisconsin law eliminates straight party voting for everyone but military voters and voters who are permanently overseas.
