Did Brenda Quit Blogging?

No! Suffering from extreme Workus Interuptus!

For the past month I’ve been working at least 70 hours a week at work or more. Haven’t had a day off in 27 33 days and although I technically have today off, I expect to work at least 4 – 6 hours if not more. Why you might ask, well . . . the full weight of those last law changes hit us hard, plus a few other little things . . .

  • Fundraiser
  • Short one staff member (1 of 6 full time staff, so that’s an extra day of work for each of us each week)
  • Hiring process (read resumes, 1st interviews, second interviews)
  • Retraining staff and volunteers
  • Crazy client referrals with knotty complex issues that needed additional attention (referrals from courts, elected officials, city and county staff, other Executive Directors, etc)  I tell ya, is getting really weird out there!  Bad time to be a tenant or landlord in Wisconsin.
  • Rewriting and updating the website (nearly complete)
  • Rewriting our standard 20+ brochures and handouts (also nearly complete)
  • Rewriting the Housing Counselor Training Guide (Wisconsin version and Dane County version)
  • Teaching Seminars throughout the state (i.e. making cash to keep our doors open)
  • Dealing with some kinda major (time consuming) technology issues

I still have to finish mindboggling details on all of the above, teach a few more seminars (Madison, Tomah, Stevens Point) make the final offer and train the new staff, rewrite all the forms, manage getting the brochures translated to Spanish, rewrite the Apartment Management in Wisconsin book and hopefully get to the Tenants Rights in Wisconsin Book.

In addition to all that work staff, we have been patiently waiting since we submitted our application February 19th and yesterday the staff report on the tiny house project came out yesterday and although the recommended approval, there’s some issues to deal with there and then we finally get to some city committees, but that workload is a little mindboggling too for the next few weeks:
Monday, April 21 – Neighborhood Meeting 6:30 James Reeb Church
Wednesday, April 23 – Urban Design Commission, 4:30, Room LL110, Municipal Building
Monday, April 28th – Plan Commission, 5:30, Council Chambers (room 201, City County Building)
Tuesday, May 6th – Council meeting, 6:30, Council Chambers
Friday, May 9th – Fundraiser Brink Lounge, 5 – 7, 701 E Washington Ave.
Friday, May 16th – 5:30 – 8, Badger Bowl Cabin Room (Getting Visionary Award)

Plus in May we have to:

  • Have the real estate closing
  • Clean up the new property
  • Fixing the roof
  • Make the bathrooms functional
  • Set up the new shop
  • Move
  • Close down the old shop

So, my little community service project of my blog has taken a bit of a back seat to some higher priority items at the moment. It’s a good time to mention that if anyone wants to join the blog and write a little yourself about local community issues, please feel free to contact me. If you go to any city, county or school board meetings, I’d welcome any summaries, no matter how short or long. You can log in yourself or send them to me and I’ll post them. I hope to be back to blogging daily next week, but it may take me a little while to ramp back up to full speed.
