County Board Chairman Wins Straw Poll By 2-to-1 Margin

In a straw poll at their meeting Wednesday, members of the Democratic Party of Dane County overwhelmingly chose Scott McDonell as their favored candidate in the upcoming primary election for County Executive.

McDonell earned 53 votes to Joe Parisi’s 26. Joe Wineke garnered 15 votes and Zach Brandon drew 8.

“I’ve been talking for months about my pride in our progressive values and my commitment to protect them,” said McDonell. “This result just shows that a lot of people agree that those values are worth protecting, and they think I’m the right one for the job. I certainly will not let them down.”

McDonell, who has served on the County Board for 15 years and chaired it for five, is endorsed by Sheriff Dave Mahoney, 18 County Supervisors and 20 local elected leaders. The County Executive primary election takes place Tuesday, February 15. The two candidates with the most votes will face off in the general election on April 5.
