So, I always love it when people point our really obvious flaws about life in general in the city – besides lack of public restrooms and lockers that the homeless and everyone else could use – today’s issue – garbage cans. It’s always the simplest of things to solve the “issues”.
It’s been a few weeks since our last update. Thanks for recent feedback, we really appreciate opportunities to problem-solve.
It continues to be great working with our Madison Police partners. We have been fortunate to have multiple officers drop by and tour our center. I hope neighbors aren’t assuming the worst when MPD vehicles are around! We’re partners with them!
Guests here identified that additional trash cans between here and Capitol would have been helpful; wish we would have thought of that sooner. Guest volunteers are working to pick up litter on their way to/from night time shelters and/or street sleeping spots. We continue to walk around our block and pick up litter, as well as keep a lookout for anything that is annoying to neighbors.
Many of the folks we serve are pretty computer-savvy and have been reading communication shared on list serves and social media; from what I understand some folks are expressing their thoughts on this day shelter project, and its position in the neighborhood, online and in Street Pulse newspaper.
We’re excited to share that a choir has started here and we look forward to hosting their first recital – I will share that information with neighbors, as well.
Again, thanks for feedback, we want to keep problem-solving. We’ll be neighbors for 4 more weeks.
