County Budget Recap

Here’s the info on the meetings I attended regarding this year’s county board budget. I’ll be live streaming the Personnel and Finance meeting again tonight . . . and hopefully both nights next week. Hopefully the blog from Executive Committee where they decided not to forward the motion on cameras will done soon too.

I started live streaming on Facebook because the Executive Committee doesn’t seem to think the public is interested in what is going on – I don’t believe that’s true. All my videos have over 300 views, one has over 1000. I mean, that’s not a lot, but its an amateur production that most people probably don’t even know about! Imagine if it were done by Citicable and given to the other government channels in Dane County and available on line . . . where people could find it, integrated into the county website.

October 30 – Public Protection and Judiciary Meeting
Motion to cut the jail from the budget at this meeting. And a discussion with the DA about the Restorative Justice Court.
Note: There’s been over 1000 views on this – the county board staff says the most that watch the county board meetings in the past has been 5. Only 300 in a year, and most of them are the county board staff finding out information about the meeting. Seriously?

Nov 2 – Health and Human Needs Meeting
Many amendments impacting Human Services – including housing support, bus passes for homeless and $8 million mental health restoration center.
Part I – technical live streaming difficulties, so there are some gaps

Part II – Four hour limit on Facebook streaming, so this is four hours

Part III – last 17 minutes of the meeting

Nov 6 – Personnel and Finance Meeting
Presentations from all departments on their amendments except for Health and Human Needs and Public and Protection and Judiciary who will present on Nov 8. This one includes discussion of a wheel tax (er, Vehicle Registration Fee), video cameras and staff to tape county board committee meetings and motions for $1.4 and/or $25M for building affordable housing.
Part I – technical difficulties again

Part II –
