Dear Neighbors-
I have reserved the large room in WilMar, 953 Jenifer, on Monday July 11th from 7-9p for neighbors who wish to gather to share questions and comments about the officer involved shooting on Morrison St July 1.
Central District Capt Carl Gloede will attend. He will be able to answer general questions. Since the Sheriff’s investigation of the incident and MPD’s internal investigation of the officer’s actions are ongoing, he won’t be able to answer all the questions people may have about the incident.
The last few weeks and especially the last few days have been deeply distressing for our community and the country with regard to police use of force and the disparate and deadly impact on communities of color and people with mental wellness challenges and drug/alcohol issues. There is increasing polarization in Madison. My hope is that our neighborhood and city can work respectfully through the tension to find common ground- safety and human dignity for all- and a way forward to achieve that goal.
Please share this invitation with friends and neighbors who are not on the list serve and would be interested in attending. Jenifer St is underconstruction, be careful when traveling through the neighborhood as sidewalks are also being repaired.
