An Organizer’s/Activist’s Week from Hell

Come to meetings or contact your elected officials on Monday, Tuesday, Tuesday (again), Wednesday, Thursday and if Monday goes poorly, major damage control on Tuesday as well. Mayor Kicking People out of the City County Building (Monday), Judge Doyle Square (Monday), TRC getting 1/3 of its funding cut (Tuesday and Wednesday) and the bench ordinance (Thursday). But my biggest concern is what happens (Tuesday) to the nearly 60 people who sleep outside the city-county building if it goes poorly? And those are just the BIG issues! Yeah, we need your help this week!! Time to get beyond good intentions, email, call, attend speak! In addition to this, final recommendation on body cameras . . . and more.

Trespassing at the City-County Building
Here’s the blog post on what you can do. Meeting at 5:45 tonight at the City-County Building in room 351! At least come register if you don’t have time or don’t want to speak. Tell them to vote NO!

Judge Doyle Square
Here’s my post on the 10 questions you should be asking your alder. (It was hard to limit it to 10 . . . ) Meeting tomorrow night at 6:30, room 201 at the city-county building. Item 60.

TRC funding
The county has finally found a way that might stick to cut 1/3 of our funding. Obviously, that will have devastating affects on our organization, but we CAN survive. More on that later today or tomorrow morning. (I can work on that at work!) Last week the County Executive Joe Parisi announced his two listening sessions on his budget (I couldn’t find any info on this on his website last week). Neither are in that pesky Madison where he will need to listen to a larger amount of people.

September 1 — 5:30– 7 p.m., Fitchburg Public Library, 5530 Lacy Rd., Fitchburg.
September 2 — 5:30 – 7 p.m., Westside Community Service Building, 2598 W. Main St, Sun Prairie.

If you can’t make it, you can email him at parisi@countyofdane.com

Bench Ordinance
First two committees unanimously voted against it. Lets see if we can get the third one to do so as well. CDBG Commission will be voting Thursday at 5:00 in room 260. You an email committee members here:
