According to my alder and a neighbor, the drinking and behavior there is out of control. Well, I had to find out for myself how bad it is.
This was my request for information.
Please send me the list of calls that resulted in you saying the following:
Police calls for the area have spiked from virtually none before the center’s opening to 16 calls for service to Reynolds Park and 31 calls for service to the center last month, says Madison Police Central District Capt. Carl Gloede.
Also, please send me any additional calls that may have occurred since this statement.
I’m particularly looking for the reason for the call, date, time, the name of the person involved and if there was a ticket or arrest as a result of the call.

Not sure what to think of the data. Obviously a weapons charge and a drug incident are not good. Checking the property and people could mean just about anythings. I didn’t get the information on what happened, if there was an arrest or ticket . . . yet? Even if there was an uptick in January, it seems to have settled down in February. To me, it looks like another over-exaggeration by the police department and the city.

Again, not sure what to make of some of it. Check property or check person doesn’t tell me much without the rest of the information. EMS and assist fire/police could be just plain old medical issues or could be an intoxicated person. Chapter 51 could be mental health commitments or alcohol. The trespassing is probably from banned people, but who knows why they were banned from the day center. Attempts to locate a person could be a witness or a victim or a suspect. Assisting a citizen doesn’t sound ominous.
Of the 58 calls in nearly 3 months it appears that there were 7 disturbances, 2 thefts, a 4th degree sexual assault (unwanted touching), 5 trespassing, 2 fights. 1 violation of a court order, 3 arrests, 4 forced commitments for alcohol or drugs or mental health issues, 2 intoxicated people, 1 domestic/family issue, 1 suspicious person and 1 missing juvenile/runaway. There were also 3 disconnected or silent 911 calls, 1 unknown, 3 EMS calls, 2 assists to citizens, 3 property checks, 7 checks on people, 2 assist/follow ups, 2 assists for police/fire, 2 attempts to locate a person, one civil (not criminal) dispute, 1 information call and 1 injured person.
Obviously, some of this stuff isn’t good, but given that there are 75 – 100 stressed out people caged in close quarters for nearly 90 days . . . this doesn’t seem too bad.
Bums me out when I seek information and it doesn’t really help me draw strong conclusions. Hopefully when I get the additional information it will help me make more sense of it.

Meanwhile, I didn’t ask for this, but here are the calls to the Occupy Site. Not too much exciting given the 5 months covered and many are bad 911 calls, citizen assists for non-criminal reasons and traffic/parking issues.
