Support Community Radio at Noon Today!

If you’re one of my many supporters who want to see me continue my media work, please help show your support today during the WORT Pledge Drive . .. 256-2001 . . . I’ll be interviewing Bill Lueders on this new book Watchdog: 25 years of muckraking and rabble rousing. 256-2001 . . . 256-2001 . . . 256-2001 or on the web at http://www.wort-fm.org/ and click on the little piggy bank . . . its easy . . . and important . . . and here’s why . . . . . . besides you get to hear programming where we get to turn the tables on Bill Lueders and ask HIM the questions!

1. With the mainstream media cutting back, where else are you going to find the local news and information that is important to you?
2. This is community radio, its our radio, and it can’t succeed without us!
3. Only one in ten people who listen to community radio actually financially support it . . . be one of them!
4. Can you image a world without WORT? A Madison without WORT, really? Help support it and keep it strong!
5. Listener sponsorship makes up 65% of the revenue for the station.
6. It costs $70 per hour to keep us on the air . . . $1680 per day . . . you do the rest of the math! Ok, I won’t make you do it, that’s $583,350 per year!
7. Where else are you going to hear the eclectic mix of music, Democracy Now, BBC news, and so much other programming that you don’t hear elsewhere?
8. Help support the over 300 volunteers that help keep the station going!
9. There’s cool premiums . . . AND you get to support this important community radio station!
10. Ok, do it cuz you support me! It’s my first pledge drive, help me meet my goal! Please! Please! 256-2001.

The theme for this drive, “Pushing It to 11”, reflects the station’s goal of increasing the percentage of listeners who donate from the public/community radio industry standard of around 10% (i.e. one in 10 listeners) to 11%. Doing so would mean adding roughly 300 new donors to WORT’s listener sponsorship, and could go a long way towards ameliorating the station’s projected budget deficit for fiscal year 2011.

Local artist Amber Solow has done the artwork for “Pushing It to 11” that will be featured on new T-shirts (organic and made in the U.S.) and a limited-edition fine art print (poster) that is suitable for framing. Amber has done other artwork for WORT recently–including the festive poster for our 2010 block party. The T-shirts are available in both “unisex” and women’s cut styles and can be viewed (along with other WORT premiums) on our website www.wort-fm.org.

Other WORT-specific items like water bottles, coffee mugs, and other T-shirts and fine art prints will also be available. Other premia ranging from books to DVDs to CDs to concert tickets to assorted odds and ends and gift certificates from local businesses will be available in abundance.
