2 Day Round Up

Didn’t have much yesterday morning, so I skipped it, so here’s bit more than usual.

NEW OOHS AND AaHS FOR 4TH 3RD OF JULY
Spongebob and a flag contest? Can we get crash helmet too? Oooooh, aaaaah.

EH, WE’LL JUST CHANGE THE LAW
The UW plays that game too, they want to kill the sheep! Makes me wonder tho, why is there a law on the Wisconsin books that prohibits killing animals by decompression.

CLEAN LAKES!
Who doesn’t love it. A press opportunity for Hulsey and they had the press conference at the Chamber of Commerce. Sometimes, we are just silly in this town, and the press fall for it. What did the Chamber have to do with the article? Why is the government once again presenting to the business community instead of the public. There wasn’t anything obvious about the Chamber’s connection on their website.

CLEAN AIR
Yeah, that too, don’t forget.

THOSE SCARY HOMELESS
Read the last 5 paragraphs if you read nothing else.

SCOOTER SCOFFLAWS
Wow, nice use of stereotypes.

SPEAKING OF STEREOTYPES

One of the reasons I don’t consider myself a progressive is that unlike most of the other Isthmus dwellers in Madison, I’m not afraid of progress.

What? Progressive = Isthmus dwellers? I think if you asked most progressives and most isthmus dwellers, they’d be surprised. I know many progressives who don’t live on the Isthmus and many more Isthmus dwellers who are NOT progressive.

PRIUS BATTLE
“Green Cab” vs green cab. And interesting marketing, I wonder how they will deal with the folks they are not marketing to.

RECALL SOUTHWORTH?
Hell yeah!

IN CASE YOU DIDN”T HEAR
Yes, the council UNANIMOUSLY said the Sheriff should stop calling ICE on all non-US born people booked into the Dane County Jail, except where someone is being booked on a felony. In my post this morning, you will see he didn’t take that very kindly.

WARNER PARK PRAIRIE SAVED
Here’s an update from the Northside Discuss listserve:

Thanks to many who spoke up to say that they really like the prairie at Warner Park Center. Thanks to Satya who strongly defended this little prairie. The prairie is saved.

Warner Park Center advisory committee is now working with the prairie volunteers to come up with a plan that all are happy with. There may be some modifications and enhancements. There were some concerns that tall prairie plants make it difficult to see small children. Not a problem, as there are lots of shorter prairie plants.

Wild Madison spoke for the prairie. Audubon Society sent a speaker. Neighbors and nature lovers spoke up. Voices of citizens do make a difference.

It’s good to see that optimism.

That’s it for today, trying to get one more post done before work!
