So look who’s going rogue:
Democratic state Rep. Brett Hulsey of Madison is considering switching his party affiliation to become an independent.
Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says Hulsey told him and Democratic Assembly Leader Peter Barca on Tuesday he was considering the switch.
The fact of the matter is that Madison legislative seats are very safe for Democrats. Democrats should expect the very best of the best kinds of people to hold these seats. The kinds of people who any Democrat should be able to point to and proudly say, “S/he’s a Democrat.” If that’s not possible, at least get someone who is helpful on a campaign, whether that’s someone who is good at raising money for others or someone who can call a first-time candidate and help them out. Does any of this sound like Mr. Hulsey?
At the very least this Brett Hulsey story didn’t involve a box cutter. So that’s sort of like progress…To refresh your memory:
After spending much of the fall explaining why he pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge, Wisconsin Rep. Brett Hulsey (D-Madison) appears to be in the middle of more turmoil.
His full-time legislative aide took vacation and is being reassigned to another job following an incident where she felt threatened by Hulsey’s plan to use a box cutter to show her how to defend herself.
If Mr. Hulsey wants to leave, so be it:
Please step on a Lego with your barefoot on the way out…er, I mean, don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
So who’s ready to step up to run for an assembly seat?
